
SeaWolves Take Down Cats 5-3, Take Season Series

The SeaWolves won their second straight at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium, taking down the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5-3 on Saturday night.
Erie jumped ahead in the top of the first inning against Cats starter Scott Barnes. Wynton Bernard led off the game with a double and scored on a Jason Krizan single for a 1-0 lead.
The 'Wolves extended their lead in the third. Alberto Gonzalez led off with a single and with one out, Bernard laid down a bunt for a base hit putting two on. Krizan followed with a walk, loading the bases for JaCoby Jones. Jones lifted a sacrifice fly to center, plating Gonzalez for a 2-0 lead. Dean Green followed and was hit by a pitch, reloading the bases for Dominic Ficociello . Ficociello singled home a pair giving Erie a 4-0 lead.
In the fifth, Jones was hit by a pitch by with one out by reliever Luis Perez. Dean Green followed and connected on an opposite-field double into the left field corner. Jones scored from first on the play and it gave the 'Wolves a 5-0 advantage.
SeaWolves starter Josh Turley started his night with five shutout innings but ran into trouble in the sixth. Christian Lopes led off with a single. Turley retired the next two hitters bringing Kevin Nolan to the plate. Nolan sent a ground ball to third and on a Wade Ganyor throwing error, reached safely. The next hitter, Ryan Schimpf, belted a three-run home run to right making it a 5-3 game.
Melvin Mercedes worked two scoreless innings in relief of Turley before handing the ball to Joe Mantiply in the ninth. K.C. Hobson led off with a single to bring the tying run to the plate. Mantiply retired Derrick Chung for the first out bringing Martin Medina to the plate. Medina sent a ground ball to third and on Gaynor's second error of the night, reached safely, bringing the winning run to the plate. Mantiply induced a game-ending 4-6-3 double play off the bat of Lopes to end the game.
Turley (10-7) earned the win allowing three unearned runs on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts in six innings. Turley has now won 10 games in consecutive seasons.
Mantiply earned his second save and first since June 21 tossing a scoreless ninth. Mantiply has not allowed a run over his last five appearances.
The win also gives the SeaWolves their first season series win over the Fisher Cats since 2009.
