Nick Williams hit a go-ahead two-run single in the top of the seventh inning that won the game as the Fightin Phils (68-51) defeated the Trenton Thunder (62-57) 4-2 on Saturday night. Jake Thompson (3-0) won his third straight start.

Jake Thompson didn't give up his first hit until the bottom of the fourth inning with one out. Tyler Austin hit a double that moved Tyler Wade to third base. Wade scored on a RBI groundout by Mark Payton that gave Trenton a 1-0 lead.

Art Charles reached first base on an error by Tony Renda to begin the top of the fifth inning. Angelo Mora tied the game on a RBI triple off Cale Coshow then scored on a sacrifice fly by Brodie Greene that gave Reading a 2-1 lead. Tony Renda tied the game at 2-2 off Thompson in the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo home run.

Williams hit the go-ahead two-run single off reliever Connor Mullee in the top of the seventh inning that gave Reading a 4-2 lead. Art Charles and Angelo Mora scored on the single. Jake Thompson pitched six innings and allowed two runs off two hits and five walks with five strikeouts. The five walks by Thompson tied a season high (6/18 at Corpus Christi). Reinier Roibal pitched two scoreless innings in relief as he gave up just one hit and struck out one batter.

Stephen Shackleford earned his 27th save as he closed out the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. Andrew Knapp extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a single in the top of the eighth inning.

The Fightin Phils and Thunder wrap up their series on Sunday night. First pitch is at 5:00 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 4:30 pm.
