Summary

The Portland Sea Dogs spoiled the Double-A debut of D.J. Brown Saturday night, as Carlos Asuaje drove in three runs with a homer and single in a 6-4 win over the RubberDucks at Hadlock Field.

Turning Point

Asuaje, Portland's 23-year-old second base prospect, stroked a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh off Zach Nuding to give the Sea Dogs (44-76) a 6-2 lead. Asuaje finished 3-4, with a homer and three RBI on the night.

Mound Presence

Brown joined the team Saturday from Single-A Lynchburg and made his debut at the Double-A level. An 11-game winner with the Hillcats, Brown breezed through the first three innings before giving up a pair of solo homers to Sam Travis and Asuaje in the fourth inning. After recovering with a perfect fifth, Brown (0-1) came back for the sixth inning with the score tied, 2-2. He issued a lead-off walk and then allowed an RBI double by Travis to fall behind, 3-2. He left in favor of right-hander Ben Heller, who allowed Travis to score on a wild pitch and make it 4-2, Portland. All told, Brown allowed four runs on six hits, with one walk and five strikeouts.
