Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves four-game winning streak came to an end on Friday night at Mirabito Stadium as they were shut out by the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 2-0.

The starting pitchers for both sides set the tone early in a pair of no-decision efforts. Erie's Austin Bergner twirled five hitless innings with no walks and three strikeouts. It was the deepest he's worked in a game this season. Binghamton's Alec Kisena was equally as impressive hurling six scoreless, allowing one hit with no walks and eight strikeouts.

The game was scoreless into the bottom of the seventh against Erie reliever Chavez Fernander. Brett Baty led off with a double off the wall in center. The ball was initially ruled a home run but the call was reversed. Ronny Mauricio then walked and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Fernander battled back and struck out Luke Ritter for the first out. Hayden Senger put the Ponies on the board with a sacrifice fly to right, plating Baty. Johneshwy Fargas followed with a base hit, scoring Mauricio for a 2-0 lead. J.T. Perez got Erie out of the jam without any further runs to score.

The Erie offense was limited to just one base hit and did not have a runner past first base in the game. Dillon Dingler singled with one out in the fourth and would later reach on a hit-by-pitch and was the lone baserunner of the game for the SeaWolves.

Binghamton reliever Andrew Edwards (1-0) earned the win tossing 1.1 hitless innings with no walks and three strikeouts.

Michel Otanez retired the final six Erie batters of the game in order to earn his first save.

Fernander (1-1) took the loss allowing two runs on two hits with a walk and a strikeout in 0.2 innings.
