RubberDucks Use Full Team Effort to Rally Back and Top Curve 9-8

The Akron RubberDucks rally from four runs down to outslug the Altoona Curve 9-8 on Thursday night at Canal Park.

Turning Point

Akron finally went in front in the bottom of the seventh when George Valera singled into right to bring home Jose Tena to make it 8-7 RubberDucks. The throw to plate to try and get Tena tipped off the catcher's glove, which allowed Brayan Rocchio to score an important insurance run and make it 9-8 Akron.

Mound Presence

Xzavion Curry got the start for Akron and never looked comfortable in the early stages. Curry allowed three runs in the first inning and one in the third before settling down and getting a ground out to end his night without allowing additional runs. Kevin Coulter followed allowing three runs over two innings of work. Andrew Misiaszek tossed two and third allowing one run. Kevin Kelly followed with two innings allowing one run.

Duck Tales

The RubberDucks answered Altoona's early runs quickly in the bottom of the first when Marcos Gonzales ripped a two run double to score George Valera and Will Brennan and make it 3-2 Curve. Julian Escobedo followed with an RBI single to score Gonzales and tie the game at 3-3. Akron found itself trailing again entering the bottom of the sixth, but Jose Tena lined a ball down the right field for an RBI triple to start the rally. Brayan Rocchio followed with two-run home run into the Bud Light Lime Tiki Terrace to bring the Ducks within a run. That run scored later in the inning when Escobedo singled home Valera to make it 7-7.

Notebook

Gonzales extended his on-base streak to 11 games... Victor Nova picked up his second hit of the season...Game Time: 3:31...Attendance: 1,399.

The RubberDucks will continue their series with the Altoona Curve on Friday, April 29 at 7:05 p.m. Akron right-hander Daniel Espino (1-0, 2.63 ERA) will face Curve right-hander and Massillon native Kyle Nicolas (0-1, 7.45 ERA).
