Erie SeaWolves News Release

The Erie SeaWolves began their six-game series against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies with a 4-0 victory on Tuesday at UPMC Park. It was the SeaWolves' tenth shutout of the season.

Erie struck first in the second inning. Quincy Nieporte led off the frame with a single against Jesus Vargas. Andre Lipcius doubled Nieporte to third. Three batters later, Eric De La Rosa singled in Nieporte and Lipcius with a single to center to give Erie a 2-0 lead.

Wilmer Flores had a shortened start tonight as he will be representing the Tigers this weekend along with Dillon Dingler at the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. The Venezuelan right-hander received the no-decision. He gave Erie three near-perfect innings, allowing no runs, no hits, one walk, and striking out six. His lone blemish was a hit-by-pitch to Brett Baty in the first.

Binghamton threatened in the fifth. A pair of errors from Gage Workman and Wenceel Perez brought Wyatt Young to second base. Adam Wolf induced a groundout from Jeremy Vasquez, which brought Young to third. Wolf buried a pitch in the dirt, and Dingler lost the ball. He found it in the nick of time, shovel passed the ball to Wolf who tagged out Young at the plate.

Daniel Cabrera picked up a leadoff double in the eighth after Vargas retired 14 consecutive hitters. Lipcius then worked a walk. Young bobbled a double-play ball hit, which allowed Parker Meadows to reach and load the bases. Nieporte went to first base on a catcher's interference that brought in Cabrera. Wenceel Perez cashed in on an RBI walk against Antonio Santos to make it a 4-0 game.

Wolf (5-2) earned the win. He tossed three scoreless frames in relief, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out three.

Vargas (0-7) received the loss. He had a quality start after allowing four runs (two earned) in 7.1 innings of work.
