Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Hartford, Conn - Grant Lavigne reached base three times, including his first Double-A home run, while Hunter Stovall and Kyle Datres each tallied three hits, but the Harrisburg Senators held off the Hartford Yard Goats 8-7 on Tuesday night at Dunkin' Donuts Park. Down 7-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Yard Goats put together a furious rally but came up just short. Every Hartford starter reached base and the Yard Goats had 11 hits.
Harrisburg jumped out to an early 2-0 in the top of the first inning thanks to a two-run homer by Justin Connell off Hartford's starter Tony Locey. The Nationals affiliate scored a combined five runs in the second, third, and fourth innings extending its lead to 7-0.
The Yard Goats fought back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth. Aaron Schunk led off the inning with a walk, and Michael Toglia doubled to center. After an RBI groundout by Grant Lavigne, Kyle Datres smashed an RBI double over the head of Harrisburg's center fielder, scoring Toglia to cut Harrisburg's lead to 7-2.
Hartford's comeback continued with two more runs in the sixth inning. Grant Lavigne launched a two-run shot onto the right field porch seats, his first homer for the Yard Goats this season to trim Harrisburg's lead to 7-4. The Rockies 21st prospect was recently promoted to Hartford from single-A Spokane last Wednesday. Harrisburg countered with a solo shot by Brady Lindsly extending the Senators lead to 8-4.
The Yard Goats responded with a run in the bottom of the eighth on a two-out RBI single by Isaac Collins making the score 8-5 Harrisburg. In the ninth, Daniel Montano led off with a double and Schunk walked. Lavigne followed with an RBI single scoring Montano and a Datres sac fly got Hartford within a run, but the Yard Goats came up just short, tying the game.
The Yard Goats continue their homestand against the Nationals affiliate, the Harrisburg Senators on Wednesday night at 7:05. RHP Michael Baird will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Josh Irvin will start for the Senators. The two squads will battle it out five more times with the series concluding on Sunday afternoon.
