SeaWolves Huff, Puff, Blow B-Mets Down in Twin Bill Sweep

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets dug deep, early deficits and never recovered in a doubleheader sweep by the Erie SeaWolves, on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. The B-Mets fell in game one, 7-4, and dropped game two, 8-6. They gave up four runs in the first in both contests.

SeaWolves 7, B-Mets 4

Greg Peavey gave up back-to-back singles to Jamie Johnson and Jason Krizan to start game one. Devon Travis brought them both home with a double. After a groundout and a Dean Green walk, there were runners on the corners for Corey Jones. He tallied a two-bagger to bring home a runner and move Green to third. Dixon Machado skied a fly ball to centerfield to put Erie ahead 4-0 in the first.

Binghamton got one run back in the bottom of the inning against Jeff Ferrell. With two outs, Brian Burgamy doubled. He came home on a single by Dustin Lawley to cut the deficit to 4-1.

The SeaWolves answered right back in the second. Craig Albernaz started the frame with a walk and advanced to third on a Johnson double. Albernaz scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Travis to make the score 5-1.

The B-Mets rallied in the fourth. Darrell Ceciliani singled to lead off the inning and moved to second on a walk. Wilfredo Tovar tallied an infield single to load the bases. Brandon Nimmo brought home one run with a single and Dilson Herrera plated two to trim the lead down to 5-3.

Erie got some insurance in the seventh against Adam Kolarek. Krizan walked and advanced to third base on a Travis double. Steven Moya came through with a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Krizan. Green capped off the scoring with a single to extend the road team's advantage to 7-4.

Ferrell (8-8) gave up four runs in the five innings to pick up his first win against Binghamton in five tries this season. Peavey (9-3) was tagged for five runs in six frames. He did not allow a run after the second. Kolarek allowed two runs in an inning of work. Angel Nesbitt got the final out of the game to nail down his fifth save.

SeaWolves 8, B-Mets 6

In game two, the B-Mets gave up four runs in the first, once again. Angel Cuan started things by walking Johnson. Marcus Lemon doubled to move the runner to third base. Green then smacked a double of his home to score both runners. The next batter, Moya, rocketed a ball over the fence in leftfield to make the score 4-0.

That lead was extended in the second. Albernaz was hit by a pitch and Lemon hit a two-run home run to make the score 6-0 after two frames.

Hansel Robles came on in the fourth. For the second straight, at-bat Albernaz was hit by a pitch to lead off. He stole second and scored on a Johnson double. After a fly out, Travis singled home Johnson to make the score 8-0.

The B-Mets rallied in the fifth against Bryan Augenstein. Burgamy and Jayce Boyd singled to start the inning. Ceciliani doubled to score runner and make it second and third for T.J. Rivera. He laced an RBI single to plate Boyd and knock Augenstein from the game. Will Startup came in and surrendered a three-run home run to Travis Taijeron to make it a three-run ball game at 8-5.

Binghamton got one run back in the seventh against Ryan Robowski. Wilfredo Tovar worked a two-out walk. Nimmo doubled to right-center field to plate the runner and make the score 8-6.

Guido Knudson started for Erie and tossed three scoreless frames. Augenstein (3-1) allowed four runs in an inning-plus of work. Cuan (3-5) gave up six runs on five hits in three innings. Robles surrendered two runs in an inning of work. Chase Huchingson, Jon Velasquez and Randy Fontanez each pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen. Robowski allowed one run in two innings for his fourth save.

The B-Mets (72-50) wrap up their series with the SeaWolves on Thursday at 6:35 PM. RHP Gabriel Ynoa takes the mound for Binghamton against RHP Wilsen Palacios for Erie. POSTGAME NOTES: The B-Mets collected 23 hits and nine walks in the two games....It's the second time they've been swept in a doubleheader this season...Burgmay, Boyd and Ceciliani each tallied four hits between the two games.
