NEWS AND NOTES

TWO TO END THE SERIES : The Sea Dogs have dropped five of their last seven games at Hadlock Field, and conclude their three-game series with the Akron RubberDucks, playing a twinbill on Thursday...Portland's magic number is six to clinch a playoff spot and holds a 2.5 game lead over the Binghamton Mets for the top spot in the Eastern Division - smallest lead since May 19th...Portland needs 77 wins to set the franchise record for victories by a Red Sox affiliate (since 2003).

DECIDED LATE AGAIN : Portland could not hold onto a 4-1 lead, and fell to the Akron RubberDucks, 5-4 on Tuesday night...Akron scored twice off Robby Scott in the eighth inning and two runs off Noe Ramirez (2-1) in the ninth...Ramirez yielded the game-winning hit to DH Anthony Gallas (4-for-5, 2 RBI)...The 'Dogs took an early 3-0 lead on a 3-run homer by Michael Almanzar and grabbed a 4-1 lead in the sixth, thanks to a run-scoring double from Keury De La Cruz...Portland had the bases loaded in the ninth inning with one out, but Elvis Araujo retired the final two batters to end the game.
