MANCHESTER, N.H. - Matt Newman drove in three runs in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Thursday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium, but the Fisher Cats couldn't muster much else in a pair of losses, 6-2 and 4-3, to the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

Richmond took game one by grinding out base runner after base runner. The Squirrels (70-54) picked up nine hits and drew five walks, tallying 18 at-bats with runners in scoring position. They jumped on top with a pair of runs against losing pitcher P.J. Walters (1-1) in the first, and then added solo runs in the third, fourth, fifth, and seventh.

The Fisher Cats (59-65) scored their first run in the second with a sac fly from Yusuf Carter to cut the deficit to 2-1 at the time. An RBI double by Andy Burns an inning later made it a 3-2 game before Richmond pulled away down the stretch.

Jack Snodgrass (10-5) earned the win by throwing six innings of two-run ball. Walters lasted four frames, striking out nine but allowing four runs (three earned) to suffer his first defeat in a Fisher Cats uniform.

In the nightcap, Newman put the Fisher Cats in front with an RBI double in the first inning. After Myles Schroder homered to tie it in the third, Newman answered with the first of two sacrifice flies in the bottom of the inning to put the Fisher Cats back on top, 2-1.

That was the score when starter Mike Lee (L; 1-1) allowed a second home run to lead off the fifth, this one by Ricky Oropesa, to tie the game at 2-2. Newman and Co. answered right back in the bottom of the frame when Newman lofted another fly to left to score Andy Fermin for his third run batted in.

In the sixth, the Squirrels took the lead for good when Randy Boone came on in relief of Lee. With two on and one out, Devin Harris doubled over the head of Newman to give Richmond a 4-3 lead.

Newman had a double in his lone official at-bat, and then added the sac flies to tie his career high with three RBI. Kevin Nolan had a pair of hits in game one to push his Double-A hit streak to a team-high 15 games. A hitless outing in the second game meant the end of that streak.

With Richmond sweeping the doubleheader, the Squirrels took the series two games to one, and the season series, 4-2.
