LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets dug deep, early holes in both ends of doubleheader and were swept by the Erie SeaWovles on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. The B-Mets lost game one 7-4 and game two 8-6. In each matchup, the team fell behind 4-0 in the top of the first inning. Brian Burgamy, Jayce Boyd and Darrell Ceciliani each tallied four hits between eachgame. Travis Taijeron hit a three-run home run in game two. The shot was part of a five run fifth inning, in which the B-Mets cut the lead to three. It's only the second time Binghamton has been swept in a doubleheader this season. Their magic number to clinch a playoff spot remains at nine games.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Gabriel Ynoa gets the ball for the B-Mets. The 21-year-old is making his eighth start of the season and his third against Erie. Ynoa took the hard luck loss in his last outing. He gave up two runs on four hits in six innings in a 2-1 Binghamton loss to Harrisburg on Friday, August 8. The game was the fourth time that the righty allowed two earned runs or less. In two previous outings against the SeaWolves, Ynoa is 1-0 and has surrendered seven runs and eight hits in 11 innings of work. The La Vega, Dominican Republic native was signed by the Mets as a minor league free agent on November 19, 2009.
ERIE STARTER: RHP Wilsen Palacios toes the rubber for the 23rd time this season and his 22nd start. The righty is coming off back-to-back shutout performances. Palacios gave up six hits in seven scoreless innings and got the win on Friday, August 8 against New Britain. Erie won the game, 6-0. In two previous starts against Binghamton, Palacios is 1-0. He's tossed nine innings and has give up four runs on ten hits. He's also walked eight batters. The Guarenas, Miranda, Venezuela native was singed by Detroit as a free agent in 2013.
DUSTED AWAY: Wednesday was just the second time Binghamton had been swept in a doubleheader this season and the first time at NYSEG Stadium. The B-Mets hadn't lost back-to-back games since July 27-28 and not to the same team since July 21-22. The B-Mets left 22 runners of base during the twin bill and never held a lead. In game two, the B-Mets collected 12 hits and walked seven time.s
STREAK STALLED: Binghamton starters Greg Peavey and Angel Cuan gave up a five and six runs, respectively in each end of the doubleheader on Wednesday. That ends a stretch of eight straight games in which a B-Met starter has allowed two earned runs or less. That includes six games with no earned runs surrendered by a Binghamton starter. The 11 runs allowed were more than the unit has given up in the their last nine appearances combined.
BOYD BELTS BALL: Binghamton INF Jayce Boyd collected four hits between the two games on Wednesday. He now has a base knock in nine of his last ten games. He has 40 hits in 32 games between July and August. The righty has raised his average 36 points since July 1.
KEEP THAT CLOSET CLOSED: Binghamton is at risk of being swept for just the second time this season, on Wednesday. The only other time that happened was May 30-June 1 at New Britain. The B-Mets are 24-11 in series finales, including wins in their last two chances.
