Scary Collision Clouds Contest

Bowie dropped a second straight game in New Britain in a game that will be remembered for a scary collision between two New Britain outfielders much more than its final outcome. The final score was 8-5.

With Michael Ohlman batting with a runner at first base and nobody out in the 5th inning, a fly ball was sent to right-center field. Both RF Mike Kvasnicka and CF Byron Buxton had a beat on it. They each dove simultaneously and collided in right-center field. Both lay on the ground for many minutes. An ambulance came and Buxton was transported on a stretcher. Kvasnicka was suffered a hip injury and Buxton, the Twins top-rated prospect, had a concussion.

There was a 39-minute delay and a long debate as to whether to continue the game at all. Buxton, who was making his Eastern League debut, had reportedly laid unconscious for close to ten minutes.

As play returned, the Baysox trailed 4-1. CF Mike Yastrzemski would bring home two runs with a two-out base hit to centerfield to cut the deficit to 4-3.

But New Britain got the big inning following. RHP Marcel Prado worked walked two batters and hit three in a rocky fifth inning. New Britain plated four runs to make it an 8-3 game.

David Adams homered for the Baysox in the sixth inning and the Baysox pushed home a run after a Chris Marrero double in the seventh inning but that was as close as Bowie could get.

Bowie goes back to work Thursday, August 14th at 7:05 p.m. with LHP Anthony Vasquez on the mound. Coverage will start beginning 20-minutes prior to first pitch on 1430-AM WNAV and 99.9 FM in the City of Annapolis.

Bowie returns home for Military Appreciation Night presented by Andrews Federal Credit Union on Friday, August 15th against Trenton at 6:35 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will get a card set composed of local military heroes and fireworks will follow the game.
