Reading Fightin Phils News Release
Severino Gonzalez matched his season high with 10 strikeouts for the Reading Fightin Phils (55-69) as he guided them to a 5-2 win over the Harrisburg Senators (49-74). KC Serna also fell a triple short of the cycle as he went 3 for 4 on the night.
The Fightin Phils wasted no time off Felipe Rivero in the top of the 1st inning as they scored four runs to take a 4-0 lead. Carlos Alonso walked to begin the game then scored on a RBI double by KC Serna. Kelly Dugan knocked him in with a RBI double in the next-at bat. Peter Lavin walked with two outs then moved to second on a walk by Raywilly Gomez. Edgar Duran hit a two-run single to score Dugan and Lavin.
KC Serna hit his second home run of the season off Rivero in the top of the 2nd inning to give Reading a 5-0 lead. Severino Gonzalez had only one hit given up until he reached the bottom of the 7th inning. Kevin Keyes and Jason Martinson hit back-to-back singles that set up a RBI double by Ricky Hague to plate one run and put Harrisburg on the board 5-1. Brian Jeroloman grounded out to second base in the next at-bat to score Martinson and cut Reading's lead to 5-2.
Severino Gonzalez (8-12) was strong in his seven innings of work as he allowed just two runs off four hits with three walks issued. He matched his season best (6/13 at Altoona) with 10 strikeouts. Kyle Simon recorded his first save since 9/2/13 against New Britain as he pitched two shutout innings.
The Fightin Phils are back at FirstEnergy Stadium tomorrow evening as they welcome in the Binghamton Mets for a four-game series. First pitch is at 7:05 pm.
