Chesapeake Baysox News Release
The Baysox battled back from four-runs down with a big six-run sixth inning to salvage a game of the three-game series in New Britain by an 11-6 final.
1B Chris Marrero came to the plate with the bases loaded and nobody out trailing 5-1 and crushed a grand slam home run to left field to tie the score. Bowie was not done for pushing two more runs before the inning came to a close to lead 7-5.
The game got off to a tough start for Bowie as the third batter of the game hit a line drive off of the right leg of starter Jake Pettit who had to exit. Without an out recorded in the game the Baysox had to turn to the pen. Matt Bischoff, Ashur Tolliver, Steven Hensley and Oliver Drake would shoulder the load the rest of the way.
Tolliver (3-1) worked 2 and 2/3rd scoreless innings before giving way to Hensley who struck out two batters in the seventh. Drake would register his league-leading 26th save of the year with two innings of work striking out five batters.
Bowie opened the game up in the ninth inning. With one out 3B Niuman Romero walked. 2B Buck Britton then tripled off the right field wall near the line scoring the run. A passed ball brought Britton home and DH David Adams touched 'em all on a triple to centerfield. He scored as an errant throw ended up in the Baysox dugout. Bowie led 11-6.
Bowie returns home for Military Appreciation Night presented by Andrews Federal Credit Union on Friday, August 15th against Trenton at 6:35 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will get a card set composed of local military heroes and fireworks will follow the game.
Getting the start will be LHP Anthony Vasquez for the Baysox. The broadcast can be heard on wnav.com.
