
SeaWolves Drop Opener of Saturday's Doubleheader

The SeaWolves dropped game one of Saturday's doubleheader at PNG Field 5-2 to the Altoona Curve.
The SeaWolves took a lead in the top of the first inning against Curve starter Pedro Vasquez. Kody Eaves doubled with one out and scored on a Dominic Ficociello base hit for a 1-0 lead.
The Curve responded in the bottom of the first against Erie spot starter Kyle Dowdy. With two outs, Altoona strung together four consecutive hits from Jason Martin, Will Craig, Jordan George and Logan Hill to plate a pair of runs for a 2-1 lead.
Martin led off the bottom of the third for the Curve with a triple and he scored on a Craig sacrifice fly to make it 3-1. The game would be suspended with two outs in the inning due to heavy rains in the Altoona area.
Altoona added to the lead in the fourth against reliever Jeff Thompson. Stephen Alemais led off with a double and moved to third on a Christian Kelley groundout. Alemais scored on a Cole Tucker sacrifice fly for a 4-1 lead.
Erie closed the gap in the sixth against Logan Sendelbach. Gabriel Quintana led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He scored on a Josh Lester base hit making it 4-2. Erie would get no closer.
Altoona added a final run in the sixth against reliever Zac Houston when Kelley homered to left making it 5-2.
Sendelbach (2-1) earned the win allowing a run on four hits with two walks and a strikeout in two innings of relief.
Dowdy (2-2) took the loss for Erie allowing three runs on seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts in 2.2 innings.
Tate Scioneaux earned his second save of the season tossing the final two innings of the game.
