Burrows Hurls Gem as 'Wolves Shut out Curve

The SeaWolves, behind a stellar pitching performance from Beau Burrows, notched their first shutout win of the season, taking down the Altoona Curve, 2-0, at People's Natural Gas Field.

Erie jumped ahead in the top of the second against Curve starter J.T. Brubaker. Troy Montgomery led off with a double and scored on a Sergio Alcantara two-out single to center for a 1-0 lead.

The 'Wolves added to the lead in the fourth. Harold Castro led off with a single and Alcantara walked putting two on for the top of the lineup. With Jacob Robson attempting to bunt to move up the runners, Curve catcher Jackson Williams threw out Castro at second for the first out of the inning. Robson would eventually walk and both Alcantara and Robson advanced on a wild pitch. Kody Eaves hit into a fielder's choice, plating Alcantara for a 2-0 lead.

The two runs would prove to be enough for Burrows (3-2) who faced three batters over the minimum over six innings of scoreless work in the winning effort. He allowed just two runners to get int scoring position and none pat second base in the game. Burrows allowed two hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

John Schreiber bounced back after a pair of blown saves and worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning to earn his fourth save of the season.

Brubaker (2-2) took the loss for the Curve allowing two runs on six hits with three walks and a strikeout in a season-low four innings of work.

The shutout was the SeaWolves first of the season and their first since August 3, 2017 when they threw a 1-0 shutout in 12 innings in over Richmond.

The SeaWolves and Curve wrap up the series on Sunday afternoon at PNG Field at 2 p.m. Righty Sandy Baez (0-2, 4.85 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Joe Musgrove (MLB Rehab).
