
Sea Dogs to Host National Shrine Awareness Day on June 6

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, have teamed up with the Kora Shriners of Southern Maine to host National Shrine Awareness Day at Hadlock Field on Saturday, June 6th at 6:00 PM when the Portland Sea Dogs take on the Trenton Thunder (New York Yankees).
Over 150 Shriners from across the state will be attending the June 6th game at Hadlock Field. The Kora Highlanders, a traditional pipe and drum band, will entertain fans entering Hadlock Field. Slugger the Sea Dog will be joined by Fez Head Fred, the official Shrine Mascot, to help entertain the crowd. The Shriners will have a table set-up in the Hadlock Field concourse for fans interested in learning about the Shriners or the Masons.
Additionally, Emily Luce will throw out the ceremonial first-pitch. Emily, a Junior at Dirigo High School was treated at the Shriners Hospital in Springfield, Massachusetts for scoliosis. After successful surgery and outstanding care from the Shriners Hospital, Emily is now able to participate in the sports she loves including soccer and track & field. The Illustrious Potentate Karl Fennimore will accompany Emily to the mound.
Shriners are distinguished by an enjoyment of life and a commitment to philanthropy. They enjoy parades, trips, dances, dinners, sporting events and other social occasions. Kora Shriners are domiciled in Lewiston, Maine. Kora Shriners 3,200 members reside throughout its jurisdiction which extends from Kittery north to greater Waterville-Winslow. Anah Shriners of Bangor retain jurisdiction for the northern part of the State. Kora has nearly thirty Uniformed Units that make appearances at parades, sporting events, and other public activities. Kora features twelve locally based Shrine Clubs that help support the endeavors of the organization. Kora Shriners sponsor an annual circus in April, as well as one of the premier car shows and the Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl football game in July.
Shriners support what has been called the "World's Greatest Philanthropy," Shriners Hospitals for Children, a network of 22 pediatric specialty hospitals, operated and maintained by the Shriners. Shriners Hospitals for Children is a one-of-a-kind international health care system of 22 hospitals, dedicated to providing pediatric orthopedic specialty care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs.
Children up to age 18 with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care and receive all services in a family-centered environment at no charge-regardless of financial need. For more information on the Shriners log on to www.korashriners.com.
