Reegie Corona Transferred To Trenton

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that INF Reegie Corona has been transferred to Trenton from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and INF Carlos Mendoza has been placed on the Disabled List. Corona will start at shortstop this morning against Bowie.

Corona started the season with Trenton and batted .282 in 30 games for the Thunder, before being called up to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A) on May 14. With Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Corona appeared in 17 games and batted .147 with one home run and three RBI. Before being called up to Scranton, Corona was leading the Eastern League with 25 walks. The Caracas, Venezuela native spent the entire 2008 with the Thunder batting .274 in 129 games with 72 runs, 27 doubles and 24 stolen bases. Corona was signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2003.

Mendoza has appeared in seven games for Trenton this season batting .286 with two runs and one RBI. The Barquisimeto, Venezuela native was signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on November 2, 2006. Trenton and Bowie wrap up their five-game series this morning from Waterfront Park. RHP Christian Garcia (1-0, 0.60) will start for Trenton against Bowie LHP Troy Patton (6-1, 1.75).
