Curve Defeat Erie
June 4, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
Altoona Curve News Release
ERIE, PA - Jason Delaney continued his offensive tear and the Curve took their third game out of four at Erie with a 4-3 win Thursday night.
Delaney went 4-for-4 and an RBI, with the RBI Delaney has now driven home a run in seven consecutive games, the best of any Curve player this season.
The Curve put two runs on the board in the second inning with Jonel Pacheco scoring on an error and then Delaney scored on a sacrifice fly by Jamie Romak. The Curve added to their early lead in the third with Delaney driving home Jim Negrych.
Erie scored their first run in the third on a Mike Hollimon single to make the score 3-1 Curve.
Curve shortstop Brian Friday then knocked home Steve Lerud on a single in the fourth to put Altoona ahead by three runs.
The SeaWolves would claw back into the game with runs in the fifth and seventh innings on a Ryan Strieby RBI single and a Brennan Boesch solo homer to trim the Curve lead to one, but would get no closer.
Daniel Moskos(3-4) picked up the win after tossing five innings and giving up just two runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.
The Curve (18-35) now returns home for a three game series against the first place Akron Aeros (AA-Cleveland Indians). Friday's ballgame is set to begin at 7:05 p.m. with radio coverage beginning at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network. Friday's probable starters are LHP Kyle Bloom (0-3, 4.70) for Altoona and RHP Jeanmar Gomez (4-2, 2.77) for Akron.
Friday features two promotions at Blair County Ballpark. For the first 2,000 fans through the gates there is a Diesel Dawg Bank giveway and it is Facebook Friday where the first 500 fans of the new Curve Facebook page receive a $2 discount on tickets and are guaranteed a Diesel Dawg Bank.
