
Sea Dogs Take Home Opener with Wire to Wire Win

Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs (4-4) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, winning their 2016 home opener at Hadlock Field 8-5 over the Hartford Yard Goats (5-3).
Kevin McAvoy (2-0) earned the win in his home debut for Portland, allowing two earned runs on just three hits in 5.2 innings, walking one and striking out five.
With two Sea Dogs on base and one out in the first inning, Rainel Rosario (3-4, 2 2B, 2 R, RBI) doubled off of Yard Goats' starter Antonio Senzatela (L, 1-1) to put Portland on the board. After Henry Ramos (1-3, R, BB) popped out, Jake Romanski (2-4, 4 RBI) delivered a two-out, two-run single to give the 'Dogs the 3-0 lead.
Senzatela (2+ IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB) would leave in the third inning with an apparent injury and was replaced by Carlos Hernandez (3 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER). The Sea Dogs doubled their lead in the fourth inning off of Hernandez with an RBI groundout from Romanski, and RBI double by Tim Roberson (1-4, 2B, R, RBI), and an RBI single from Jose Vinicio (2-4, RBI).
The Sea Dogs added two more runs in the fifth inning off of Hernandez on an RBI double by Jantzen Witte (2-3, 2B, BB, 2 R, RBI) and an RBI single by Romanski.
The Yard Goats made it interesting in the top of the eighth, scoring three runs off Luis Ysla (1.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 K), highlighted by a two-run home run by David Dahl (2-4, HR, 2B, 2 R, 3 RBI), his league-leading fifth of the season.
The Yard Goats and Sea Dogs meet again Friday night at Hadlock Field, first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM. RHP Teddy Stankiewicz (0-0, 1.50) makes his second career Double-A start for Portland, while RHP German Marquez (0-1, 3.00) takes the mound for Hartford.
