The Fightin Phils (5-3) had a complete effort on Thursday night as they recorded their first shutout of the season by beat the Harrisburg Senators (3-3), 9-0. Nick Pivetta earned his first win of the season by not allowing a run through six innings

Reading took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second against Senators' starter John Simms (1-1). Rhys Hoskins scored on a fielding error by second baseman Chris Bostick. Hoskins reached base via an error by first-baseman Shawn Pleffner with one out. In the top of the third inning after Roman Quinn hit a one-out single then stole second base, JP Crawford hit a double off Simms. Quinn scored on the play and gave Reading a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the fifth inning with the bases loaded, Angelo Mora hit a grand slam off Simms that extended Reading's lead to 6-0. Quinn, Dylan Cozens and Hoskins all scored on the home run. Pivetta retired 17 out of the 21 batters he faced.

Jesmuel Valentin hit a RBI double off reliever Gilberto Mendez in the top of the eighth inning to give Reading a 7-0 lead. Christian Marrero hit a two-run home run in the following at-bat to extend the lead to 9-0. Yacksel Rios tossed two shutout innings in relief. Jeremy Bleich closed out the game by pitching a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

The Fightin Phils and Harrisburg Senators will meet again at FNB Field on Friday night beginning at 7:00 pm. Right-hander Ricardo Pinto (0-0, 4.50 ERA) will get the start for Reading. Fans will be able to listen to the game on Fightins.com beginning at 6:55 pm.
