Sea Dogs Rumble Past Ponies in 12-5 Win

Portland, Maine - Hudson Potts collected four hits and five RBI, including two homers, in the Portland Sea Dogs (6-6) win 12-5 over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (4-7) on Thursday at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine.

Portland recorded their first run in the bottom of the first against Binghamton starter Marcel Renteria. David Hamilton led off the game with a double to right. Koss followed with a base hit, driving in Hamilton, and giving the Sea Dogs a 1-0 lead.

The Rumble Ponies offense came roaring back in the top of the third against Sea Dogs starter Victor Santos. Hayden Senger led off with a base hit and Manny Rodriguez advanced him to second with a single. Jake Mangum drove in both runners with a triple, giving Binghamton the lead, 2-1. In the next at-bat, Antoine Duplantis lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Mangum and expanding their lead to 3-1.

The Sea Dogs responded in the bottom of the third with Renteria still on the bump. Hamilton led off with a walk and Koss moved him up with his second single of the night. Both runners advanced on a double steal, putting runners at second and third. Two outs later, Tyler Dearden walked to load the bases. Tyreque Reed was hit by a pitch, forcing in Hamilton, and making the score 3-2.

Potts tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer, 3-3. Potts struck again in the sixth inning to give the Sea Dogs the lead. Kole Cottam singled, while Dearden and Brandon Howlett loaded the bases with walks. Potts stepped in and lined a double to left, scoring Cottam and Dearden, giving the Sea Dogs a 5-3 lead.

In the top of the sixth, Jeremy Vasquez got the Rumble Ponies back on the scoreboard with a solo homer, tying the game again, 5-5. Portland stormed back in the bottom of the sixth, retaking the lead. Koss reached base on a fielding error and Devlin Granberg reached on a fielder's choice to put runners at first and second. Dearden singled in Koss, and Elih Marrero doubled in Granberg, taking the lead 7-5.

Portland added to their score in the bottom of the seventh against Binghamton reliever Brian Metoyer. Potts led off with a single and Cannon collected a base hit, putting runners at first and second. Koss came up to bat and launched a home run to center, extending the Sea Dogs' lead to 10-5. They added two more runs to their lead in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run homer from Potts, his second of the night, and the Sea Dogs took home a 12-5 win.

Santos (2-1) picked up his second win of the season pitching 6.0 innings, allowing five runs on six hits, walking one, and striking out six. Willy Taveras (0-2) tossed 1.1 innings, surrendering two unearned runs on three hits, and striking out one in his second loss of the year.

The Sea Dogs and Rumble Ponies play the fourth game of a six-game series on Friday with a 6:00 PM ET first pitch. Portland sends LHP Brandon Walter (0-0, 0.00 ERA) to the mound against Binghamton RHP Alex Valverde (0-0, 13.50 ERA).
