Sea Dogs Rally in Ninth to Knock off Ponies

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Portland Sea Dogs scored seven runs in the ninth to knock off the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 9-5 at Mirabito Stadium on Saturday night. Sea Dogs Third basemen Hudson Potts hit the go-ahead grand slam that completed the rally.

Portland was down 5-2 heading into the ninth against RHP Mitch Ragan. Grant Williams RBI single made it 5-3 and Devlin Granberg hit a two-run double that tied the game at five. After Tyreque Reed was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Potts deposited the first pitch he saw over the left-field wall for the grand slam. Ragan suffered the loss (1-1) and blown save (1).

The Ponies had scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth after trailing 2-1. In that frame, Nick Meyer tied the game at two on a bunt single, Quinn Brodey grounded into a fielder's choice with the bases loaded to put the Ponies ahead 3-2, and Matt Winaker hit a two-out, two-run double to make it 5-2.

Edgardo Fermin hit a solo home run, his first this year with Binghamton, that tied the game at one in the third. Fermin finished 2-4 with two runs scored.

Rumble Ponies starter Oscar De La Cruz allowed only two runs on seven hits over six innings in the no-decision. Jared Robinson also pitched two scoreless innings in relief. Portland starter Victor Santos allowed only one run over six and also received a no-decision. Sea Dogs reliever Matthew Kent (5-2) got the win.

The Ponies close out their seven-game series with the Sea Dogs on Sunday afternoon with first pitch at 1:05 PM.

POSTGAME NOTES: Jake Mangum extended his hitting streak to a season-high 11 games going 2-5 with a run scored...Carlos Rincon now has a 10-game hitting streak with his single in the first, he has reached base safely in 13 of his first 15 games with Binghamton...Meyer had a multi-hit game and an RBI.
