
Portland's Night Was Grand with 9-5 Victory

BINGHAMTON, NY - Fueled by a seven-run ninth inning, the Portland Sea Dogs beat the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 9-5 on Saturday night at Mirabito Stadium. Portland improves to 49-32 while Binghamton falls to 35-46.
With the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning, Hudson Potts smashed a grand slam to left field to put the Sea Dogs ahead, 9-5. Potts finished the night 2-for-5 with two runs and four RBI. The seven runs scored in that inning is the most the Sea Dogs have scored in an inning this season.
The Sea Dogs started scoring early. Pedro Castellanos roped a one-out double to the leftfield corner then scored on an RBI single by Tyreque Reed in the top of the first inning. Portland took the 1-0 lead.
The Rumble Ponies tied the game in the bottom of the third inning. Edgardo Fermin hit a lead-off homer off Victor Santos and the game was tied, 1-1.
In the top of the fourth inning, Hudson Potts lined a two-out single to leftfield. Jeisson Rosario then doubled him home, and the Sea Dogs led again, 2-1.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Fermin led-off with a double to left field then moved to third when Jake Mangum singled. Nick Meyer then softly hit an RBI single to left field and the game was tied, 2-2. Quinn Brodey then reached on a single. A two-run double by Matt Winaker drove home two more runs for the Rumble Ponies as they extended their lead, 5-2 over Portland.
The Sea Dogs mounted their comeback in the top of the ninth inning. Jeisson Rosario lined a one-out triple to left field then was joined on the basepath when Nick Sogard drew a walk. Grant Williams then hit a RBI single to the first baseman Winaker tying the game, 5-5. After Pedro Castellanos reached with a single, Tyreque Reed was hit-by-a-pitch to load the bases. Hudson Potts then crushed a grand slam to left field and the Sea Dogs took the 9-5 lead.
Portland and Binghamton will meet for the series finale tomorrow, August 8th at 1:05pm. RHP Brayan Bello (0-1, 4.81 ERA) will be on the mound for the Sea Dogs while the Rumble Ponies will send RHP Jose Butto (1-0, 3.18 ERA).
