FIRST DAY OF SUMMER:The Sea Dogs conclude 12 straight games against the Southern Division as they host the Akron Aeros (Indians affiliate) in the finale of a 3‐game set on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field...Dating back to 2007, the âDogs have dropped 6 of their last 7 games to the Aeros in Portland...Portland is 3‐8 during their stretch against the South and have lost 4 consecutive series...Tomorrow is a scheduled off day for Portland as they open up a week long roadtrip on Tuesday night in Norwich, CT against the Defenders.
TOUGH NIGHT: The Akron Aeros swept a doubleheader from the Portland Sea Dogs taking the opener 1‐0 (9‐innings) and grabbing the nightcap 8‐1 on Saturday night at Hadlock Field. Akron 3B Jared Goedert knocked in the lone run in the opener, delivering a 2‐out RBI single off losing pitcher RHP Bryce Cox in the top of the ninth inning. In the nightcap, 3B Jorge Jimenez clocked a first inning home run for Portland but Akron scored 8 unanswered runs off RHP Ryne Lawson (1‐6) and RHP Richie Lentz. 1B Beau Mills finished with 4 RBI and DH Carlos Santana laced a 2‐run double.
WHERE HAS ALL THE OFENSE GONE? Portland is averaging 1.9 runs‐per‐game in 11 contests against Erie and Akron and have been shutout 3 times...The Sea Dogs have not scored more than 5 runs in a game since they beat Trenton 10‐3 on June 7 at Hadlock Field...Akron recorded their 8th team shutout last night and now rank #1 in the Eastern League in ERA at 3.25...Tazawa's 5.1 scoreless frames lowered his ERA to 2.92 which ranks 10th among all Eastern League pitchers.
LOVING THE PAVILION: 3B Jorge Jimenez smacked his 3rd homer of the homestand in game 2 of last night's twinbill...Jimenez has hit all 3 homers into the U.S. Cellular Pavilion and is tied with 1B Lars Anderson for the team‐lead in long‐ball with 7...New Hampshire's Brian Dopirak hit his league‐leading 16th homer in last night's game against the Erie SeaWolves.
ON FIRE: OF Ryan Kalish went a combined 2‐for‐6 in last night's doubleheader and has hit safely in 11 of 13 games: 18‐for‐47 (.383), HR, 6 RBI...Kalish hit his first Double‐A homer on June 9 at Erie...OF Josh Reddick singled in the seventh inning in game one and has reached base safely in 24 of 27 start this season - Reddick missed over a month with an oblique injury.
