Sunday, June 21 - 6:05 p.m.
Blair County Ballpark - Altoona, PA
Game #69; Home Game #33
CURVE/CONNECTICUT SERIES: The Altoona Curve and the Connecticut Defenders (AA-San Francisco Giants) will meet for the final time in the 2009 season tonight at Blair County Ballpark. The Curve won Saturday's contest 4-0 behind Jamie Romak's two home runs and the pitching of Mike Crotta and Sean Smith. The Curve now lead the season series with Connecticut 3-2.
FOR ALTOONA: LHP Daniel Moskos is on the mound for the Curve tonight. Moskos will be making his 14th appearance this year and his 13th start. The South Carolina native picked up his fourth win of the season in his last start against New Britain tossing 5.0 innings and allowing four runs on eight hits. Moskos has lowered his ERA by more than two points over his last eight starts (6.35-4.17). On 6/10 at New Britain Moskos threw seven strong innings and allowed just two runs on six hits, yet still took the loss. Moskos was the Pirates first round selection in the 2007 draft.
FOR CONNECTICUT: Righty Daryl Maday will start make his 13th start of the season for the Defenders. Selected in the 30th round in the 2006 June draft from Arkansas University, Maday is in search of his first win since May 12. Last time out against Altoona Maday went 6.0 innings and gave up two runs on five hits for a no decision.
ROMAK ROARS: 1B Jamie Romak is starting to come around. The Ontario native blasted two home runs in Saturday's win to tie him for second on the team with five round trippers. Also over his last seven games is hitting .333 (8x24) with two home runs and four RBIs and has raised his season average by more than 20 points (.160-.181)
TABATA TIME: OF Jose Tabata did not take long to get back into the swing of things after a 37 game absence with a hamstring injury. Tabata crushed his first home run of the 2009 season Friday and is hitting .313 (5x16) during the current home stand accounting for five of the team's 19 RBIs since 6/15.
CHICKS DIG THE LONG BALL...AND SO DOES THE WIN COLUMN: After hitting two home runs in Saturday's win against the Defenders the Curve improved their record to 16-13 when the ball leaves the yard. Saturday was also the ninth time the Curve hit two home runs in a game, when this happens the team is 6-3.
WE GOTTA KEEP OUR COMPOSURE!!!: Saturday's 4-0 win over Connecticut marked the seventh time this season the Curve have won a game by three or more runs. However after those big wins the team has responded by going 1-5 in games following those blowout wins.
SERIESOUSLY SPEAKING: If the Curve can win tonight's game against the Defenders it will be the third consecutive series win for Altoona. This comes after winning only two of their first 19 series in 2009.
ONE STEP CLOSER: Pirates 2006 first round pick Brad Lincoln has been promoted to Triple-A Indianapolis and will officially be added to the roster prior to his start on June 24...The 23-year-old Lincoln posted a 2.28 ERA (75.0ip/19er) and 65 strikeouts in 13 starts this year for Double-A Altoona...In five starts last month, Brad posted a 0.80 ERA (33.2ip/3er), which included a stretch of 20.1 consecutive scoreless innings...At the time of his promotion to Indianapolis, Lincoln ranked third among all Eastern League hurlers in ERA and fourth in strikeouts.
