
Akron completes sweep, blanks 'Dogs 4-0

Portland Sea Dogs News Release
(Portland, ME) - Akron's LHP Scott Lewis, RHP Carlton Smith (4-0), LHP Matt Meyer and RHP Josh Judy combined on a 2-hit shutout as the Aeros
(46-22) blanked the Sea Dogs (32-36) 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at
Hadlock Field. Portland was swept in the 3-game set by Akron and
suffered their 5th straight loss.
Smith worked two frames of scoreless relief to earn the win for the visitors. Lewis made his second Major League rehab start and lasted 4 innings on two hits, two walks and four strikeouts. Portland received singles from LF Ryan Kalish and SS Argenis Diaz, who scored only 1 run in 25 innings over the three games.
RHP Adam Mills (2-5) suffered the tough luck loss for Portland, yielding 9 hits but only two runs over 5 IP. Mills did not issue a walk and recorded four strikeouts. LHP Dustin Richardson yielded a 2-spot in the seventh inning on two hits and two walks.
DH Matt McBride (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2B) provided the knockout punch with a 2-out, 2-run single in the seventh inning to give Akron a 4-0 advantage. McBride scored the first two runs on RBI doubles by 3B
Jared Goedert (3-for-4, 2 RBI). Akron had 14 hits but left 10
runners on base.
The Sea Dogs had not been swept in a 3-game series at Hadlock Field since 2008 when Akron took all three games in Maine.
Portland has an off-day on Monday and travel to Connecticut on Tuesday night to begin a 7-game roadtrip against the Defenders beginning at

Notes...Kalish has hit safely in 12 of 13 games...Portland has dropped four games under .500 for the first time this season - they dropped 9 of 12 during their 12-game stretch against the Southern Division...RHP T.J. Large worked two scoreless frames in relief for the Sea Dogs, lowering his ERA to 0.78...McBride hit .511 (24-for-47), 5 HR and 26 RBI in 12 games against the Red Sox system this season (7 against Salem and 5 against Portland).
