
Trenton Sweeps Double-Header from B-Mets

(Binghamton, NY)- Trenton won its first double-header of the season by sweeping Binghamton in two games at NYSEG Stadium on Sunday afternoon in Binghamton, NY. Trenton won the first game 9-3, and the second game 3-0. Trenton won its fourth straight (tying a season-high), swept the three-game series, and won the season-series over Binghamton 10-9.
Down 2-0, Trenton scored six runs in the top of the second inning in the first game of the double-header. First baseman Chris Malec hit a solo home run to start the inning off of Binghamton Starting Pitcher Eric Brown (4-6). Later in the frame, Second baseman Reegie Corona and Shortstop Eduardo Nunez each delivered two-out RBI singles to give Trenton a 3-2 lead. Designated Hitter Jorge Vazquez, in his first game since being activated from the Disabled List, followed with a three-run home run to make it 6-2. Vazquez finished the game 3 x 4 with a run, and three RBI. He had five hits in the double-header. Leading 6-3 in the fourth inning, Trenton added three runs to increase the lead to 9-3. Center fielder Austin Krum scored the first run of the inning on an error by Binghamton Shortstop Jose Coronado. RBI singles later in the inning by Nunez and Catcher Jesus Montero capped off the scoring for Trenton. Six players had multi-hit games for Trenton.
Trenton (36-32) Starting Pitcher Jason Stephens (1-0) hurled six innings to pick up the win. He scattered six hits and three runs. Thunder Reliever J.B. Cox tossed a scoreless seventh inning. Binghamton Starting Pitcher Eric Brown allowed nine hits and nine runs (eight earned) in 3 1/3 innings to take the loss.
In the second game, The Thunder scored two runs in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Corona singled and stole second base with two outs. Left fielder Noah Hall then delivered an RBI double to put Trenton on top 1-0. Vazquez followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0. Trenton added a run in the top of the sixth inning. Right Fielder Edwar Gonzalez delivered a two-out RBI double to score Hall. Hall went 2 x 3 with two runs and two doubles in the second game. Trenton Starting Pitcher Kanekoa Texeira tossed three shutout innings. Thunder Reliever Kevin Whelan (3-0) came on for Texeira and hurled two shutout innings to pick up the win. Thunder Reliever Amaury Sanit pitched a scoreless seventh inning for his ninth save of the season, and second on the year against Binghamton. Trenton notched its 10th shutout, which leads the Eastern League.
Trenton has an off day on Monday, before continuing its road trip on Tuesday night against the Akron Aeros (Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians) from Canal Park in Akron, OH. The starting pitchers for both teams are TBD. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
