B-Mets Drop Doubleheader, Shutout in Game Two

Jorge Vazquez went a combined 5-7 with a home run and four RBI for Trenton in Sunday's doubleheader at NYSEG Stadium as they took both games from Binghamton 9-3 and 3-0. The B-Mets set a season-high with their sixth straight loss and were shutout for the third time this season in the second game as four Thunder pitchers combined for the shutout.

Binghamton struck first in game one with two quick runs in the first inning off starter Jason Stephens, who went six innings to pick up his first win of the year. Emmanuel Garcia doubled to start the inning and advanced to third on Jose Coronado's groundout to first. Josh Thole then plated Garcia with an RBI groundout. Lucas Duda followed up with his fourth home run of the season to make it 2-0.

Trenton immediately responded with six runs off Eric Brown in the second. Chris Malec led off with his third home run of the year to cut the lead to one. Marcos Vechionacci and Richie Robnett then singled and Reegie Corona drove in Vechionacci to tie it. Eduardo Nunez then knocked in a run with his single to give Trenton the lead. Vazquez followed by delivering the big blow of the inning with a three-run home run, his eighth of the season, to make it 6-2.

Ruben Tejada led off the third inning with a double and then scored on Coronado's single to center to cut the lead to 6-3.

Trenton (36-32) responded again by plating three in the fourth chasing Brown from the game and yielding the final score of 9-3.

Brown went 3.1 innings, giving up eight earned runs on nine hits and two walks for his sixth loss of the year. Jake Ruckle pitched 3.1 innings in relief of Brown and did not allow a run as he made his return to the Binghamton mound after missing the beginning of the season with a shoulder injury.

In game two, Trenton picked up where they left off. Corona singled to get the third inning going and Noah Hall followed by doubling him in from second after he stole the base. Vazquez picked up his fourth RBI of the day by singling in Hall to put the Thunder up 2-0.

Edgar Ramirez took the loss for Binghamton (26-42), his first of the year, as he went three innings and gave up two runs on six hits.

Trenton added an insurance run in the six off Roy Merritt to make it 3-0 when Edwar Gonzalez doubled in Hall who had doubled to start the frame.

Kanekoa Texeira, Kevin Whelan, Wilkins Arias and Amaury Sanit combined for the shutout. Whelan moved to 3-0 as he pitched the fourth and fifth innings scoreless. Sanit picked up his ninth save of the year in 11 chances.
