Sea Dogs Fall in Back-To-Back Games

HARTFORD, CT - For the first time in 2021, the Portland Sea Dogs have lost back-to-back games. The Hartford Yard Goats took game five of the series, 5-1 over the Sea Dogs. Portland now falls to 7-4 while the Yard Goats improve to 4-7 on the season. Portland remains atop the Northeast Division with a 0.5 game lead over the Somerset Patriots.

Starter AJ Politi tossed a season-high 5.0 innings allowing three runs (all unearned) on two hits while striking out five. He did not issue any walks. Adam Lau pitched the sixth inning in relief and allowed one run (unearned) on two hits while walking one and striking out one. Durbin Feltman closed out the final two innings allowing one run on one hit while striking out three.

The Yard Goats plated three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Todd Czinege grounded a ball to the shortstop, Jeremy Rivera, but Rivera committed a two-base throwing error and Czinege moved to second then advanced to third on a passed ball. Matt McLaughlin hit a fielder's choice allowing Czinege to score and Hartford was on the board, 1-0. McLaughlin then moved to third on another passed ball and was driven home by a sacrifice fly by Max George. An RBI single by Matt Hearn brought home George and the Yard Goats jumped out to an early 3-0 lead.

Portland plated one run in the top of the sixth inning. Triston Casas reached on a fielder's choice then moved to second base when Johan Mieses drew a walk. Ronaldo Hernandez and Roldani Baldwin were then both hit-by-a-pitch, and Casas scored. The Sea Dogs continued to trail, 3-1.

Hartford moved another run across in the bottom of the sixth inning. McLaughlin singled home Bouchard after he reached on a one-out double and the Yard Goats extended their lead, 4-1.

The Yard Goats scored their final run in the bottom of the seventh with a sacrifice fly by Taylor Snyder and Portland continued to trail, 5-1.

The series finale is tomorrow at 1:05pm at Dunkin' Donuts Park. RHP Frank German (0-1, 6.75 ERA) will be on the mound for Portland. Hartford will send RHP Garrett Schilling (0-0, 5.19 ERA) to the bump.
