Ponies Drop Tight Game in Extras to Curve

BINGHAMTON, NY - It was a passed ball that proved to be the difference for the Altoona Curve in the 10th inning as the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (0-10) fall to the Curve 6-5 in 10 innings on Saturday night at Rumbletown Stadium.

Altoona (7-3) took the lead in the tenth inning on an RBI double from Josh Bissonette. Then Bissonette advanced to third on a wild pitch from Ryley Gilliam, and with Ji-Hwan Bae at the plate Bissonette scored on a passed ball which turned out to be the winning run.

The Rumble Ponies didn't go down quietly in the tenth. With runners on the corners, Sebastian Elizalde grounded into a double play scoring Carlos Cortes from third to make it a one-run game. Mark Vientos came up as the tying run but struck out swinging to end the game.

In a reversal from last night, this evening Binghamton (0-10) fell behind 4-0 in the first inning before scoring four in the sixth to tie it. The Ponies pitching was excellent, at one point retiring 20 consecutive Altoona batters. Luc Rennie settled down after the rough start and retired the last eight batters he faced. Marcel Renteria took over in the fifth and pitched three perfect frames with five strikeouts. Bradley Roney followed that up allowing just one hit over two innings, striking out the side in both the eighth and ninth.

In the sixth, the Ponies loaded the bases with none out. Elizalde drove in Binghamton's first run on an infield single and Vientos followed with a sacrifice fly. Later in the inning, with two on and two out, Will Toffey hit a two-run single to center that tied the game.

The Ponies look to avoid the sweep in the series finale Sunday afternoon in Binghamton. First pitch is at 1:05 with pregame coverage getting underway at 12:50 on MiLB.com and MiLB.TV

POSTGAME NOTES: The Ponies eight hits were spread out across seven different players...The last three Binghamton losses have all been decided by three runs or less, with two of the last three going to extra innings.
