Sea Dogs complete sweep of Rock Cats, 8-3

The Portland Sea Dogs completed their seventh series sweep of the season, taking a three-game set with the Rock Cats after Thursday afternoon's, 8-3 victory at New Britain Stadium.

Devern Hansack (3-2) worked a season-high, seven scoreless innings, scattering seven hits, one walk and fanned three. Hansack allowed at least one hit in each inning and improved his scoreless streak to 13 and 1/3 innings.

Errol Simonitsch (5-8) suffered his third loss of the season to Portland, surrendering six runs (four earned) on nine hits in five innings pitched.

Luis Jimenez and Chad Spann each had 2 RBI for the Sea Dogs. Jimenez finished the series, 7-for-12 with a home run and 8 RBI. The former Rock Cat has three straight, multi-RBI games and 16 RBI against New Britain.

Spann blasted his seventh home run with one out in the fourth inning off Simonitsch, giving Portland a 2-0 lead. In the fifth, the Sea Dogs scored four runs, sending eight men to the plate. Tyler Minges and Jeremy West added RBI's to increase Portland's lead. Jimenez delivered the crushing blow with a two-out, two-run single, putting Portland in front 6-0.

Jimenez, Minges and Spann each had two hits; Brandon Moss extended his hitting streak to 10-games, picking up a double in his final at-bat in the ninth.

New Britain scored three runs in the final two innings against the Sea Dogs' bullpen. Rusty Tucker made his Portland debut, allowing three hits and one run. Victor Ramos yielded two runs and three hits in the ninth.

Notes...Every starter in Thursday's game had at least one hit...Portland is averaging 8.8 runs-per-game at New Britain...The Sea Dogs outscored the Rock Cats 27-10 in the three-game series.
