June 29, 2006 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- The Eastern League announced rosters for the 2006 Eastern League All-Star Game today and four players from the Fisher Cats made the team. Starting pitchers Ismael Ramirez and Mike MacDonald were named to the team along with left fielder Adam Lind and catcher Curtis Thigpen.
The 25-year-old Ramirez has gone 4-5 with a 1.74 ERA in 12 starts for New Hampshire this season. He has been on the disabled list since June 12 with an elbow injury. His 1.74 ERA ranks second in the Eastern League. He is a member of Toronto's 40-man roster and was originally signed by the Blue Jays as a non-drafted free agent on July 30, 1998 from his home country of Venezuela.
The 24-year-old MacDonald is 7-4 with a 3.54 ERA in 16 starts for the Fisher Cats this season. His seven wins are tied for fourth in the league and he is third in the league in innings pitched with 94.0. He is also tied for the league lead with two complete games, including his last start June 27 vs. Trenton, when he allowed just one run on three hits. The Camden, Maine native was originally selected by the Blue Jays in the 15th round of the 2004 draft out of the University of Maine.
The 22-year-old Lind has had a monster season for the Fisher Cats, hitting .312 with 13 homers and 54 RBI in 73 games. He is third in the league in batting average, tied for third in home runs, and second in RBI. He also leads the league with 87 hits. He hit in an Eastern League-high 16 straight games between May 20 and June 6. He was originally selected by the Blue Jays in the third round of the 2004 draft out of the University of South Alabama.
The 23-year-old Thigpen is hitting .256 with three home runs and 18 RBI in 48 games this year. He also leads the team with four triples. He has drawn 32 walks on the season compared to 37 strikeouts and leads the team with an on-base percentage of .381. He was originally selected by Toronto in the second round of the 2004 draft out of the University of Texas.
New Hampshire's four All-Stars match their total from the 2004 Championship season when shortstop Aaron Hill, second baseman Dominic Rich, and pitchers Todd Ozias and Brandon League participated. Last season, pitchers Josh Banks and Lee Gronkiewicz joined second baseman Ryan Roberts as New Hampshire's representation in the event.
The game is scheduled for Wednesday, July 12 at 7:05 PM at Blair County Ballpark in Altoona, Pennsylvania, home of the Altoona Curve, Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The game will feature the All-Stars from the Eastern League's Northern Division against the All-Stars from the Southern Division.
