Harrisburg Senators News Release
Today's Game... The Senators wrap up their quick three-game trip to Connecticut with game three of their series against the Defenders tonight. The Senators are looking to win their third road series out of their past four. The Senators have won 4 out of 5 and 10 of their past 17 road games after starting the season winning just 5 of their first 19 road games. RHP Beltran Perez is on the mound for the Senators tonight and he's opposed by spot start LHP Geno Espinelli for the Defenders. Tonight is the final time these two teams play against one another in Dodd Stadium this year. The teams play one more threegame series in Harrisburg in the middle of July.
Last Time Out... The Senators received strong pitching on Wednesday night en route to their 4-2 win over the Connecticut Defenders. Pedro Astacio started for the Senators, making his fifth MLB rehab start for the Nationals, and pitched four solid innings allowing just one hit before turning things over to the Senators bullpen. After falling behind 1-0 in the second, the Sens plated a couple of runs in the 3rd to take a 2-1 lead. Melvin Dorta and Josh Whitesell both had two hits in the game and Kory Casto drove in two runs to pace the Sens. Dan Foli pitched two innings in relief for the win. Jeremy Plexico went two perfect innings and Brett Campbell struck out three of the four batters he faced in the ninth inning for his sixth save of the year.
Since June 3rd... The last of the moves made over a ten-day period came to an end on June 3rd with Prentice Redman joining the Senators. The Sens had fallen to .500 at 27-27 after having lost to Binghamton on Friday night, June 2nd, but beginning with the game on June 3rd the Senators have gone 16-7.
Bullpen... Over the past seven games the bullpen has gone 25 innings and allowed just five earned runs for an ERA of 1.80. During that span they have not surrendered a home run and struck out 14 batters while walking nine.
League Leaders... Kory Casto is sixth in the league in batting (.299), tied for third in home runs (13), first in the league in RBIs (55), first in the league in on-base percentage (.419), second in the league in slugging percentage (.536), fifth in the league in extra base hits (33), and second in the league in runs scored (50)... Melvin Dorta is fifth in the league in hitting (.309) and fourth in the league in stolen bases (19). As a team the Senators lead the league in home runs with 64 and lead the league lead in saves with 31.
Harrisburg vs. Connecticut... The Senators and Connecticut Defenders play each other just three times at Dodd Stadium in Connecticut. They play nine times altogether this year, six times at Commerce Bank Park. The Sens took two of three in early June in Harrisburg.
