
Scrappers top Tigers to Win another Series

Norwich, CT- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers battled the rain and the Connecticut Tigers on Saturday night in Norwich and were able to come away with a 6-3 win. The win guarantees a winning road trip, the team's second straight winning road trip. The Scrappers have now won 5 series since a 12 game losing streak earlier in the season.
The Scrappers offense got started early on Saturday. With 1 out and a runner on base in the top of the 2nd inning, Juan Romero launched his 4th homerun of the season to put the Scrappers up early, 2-0. In the top of the 3rd a Claudio Bautista walk and a Nellie Rodriguez single made it 3-0. Josh McAdams bounced into a double play but was able to drive in James Roberts for a 4-0 lead after 3 innings. The Scrappers saw their lead cut to a run in the bottom of the 6th inning. An error followed by a Curt Powell homerun made it a 4-3 game. Mahoning Valley answered right back in the top of the 7th. Bautista walked to start the inning. He advanced to 2nd on a groundout. Bautista was then caught off the bag on a pickoff attempt. Bautista drew a throw from pitcher Will LaMarche, the throw bounced off the glove of Powell and into the outfield allowing Bautista to score from 2nd to push the lead back out to 5-3. The Scrappers final run would be added in the 8th. McAdams doubled to start the inning. The double extended his league leading hitting streak to 15 games. Sicnarf Loopstok then doubled to drive in McAdams for the final run and a 6-3 lead.
Rob Whitenack (3-4) started for the Scrappers and worked 6 strong innings for the win. He allowed just 4 hits and 3 runs, 2earned. He did not walk a batter and struck out 3. Ben Heller came out of the bullpen and worked 3 scoreless innings for his 3rd save. Heller allowed just 2 hits and no runs. He did not walk a batter and struck out 4.
