August 3, 2013 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Jamestown Jammers News Release

Jamestown, NY- A night after allowing four runs in the first inning, the Jammers set their sights on starting the game off on the right foot. Jamestown would hold Brooklyn without a run in the first inning Saturday night before falling behind 2-0 an inning later. An eighth inning rally for Jamestown would fall short as the Cyclones would hold on for a 7-4 victory.

Jackson Lodge would go just three innings in his eighth start of the season for the Jammers. The Cyclones would get on the board first in the second inning as Eddie Rohan took Lodge deep with a runner on to give Brooklyn a 2-0 lead. Jamestown would answer with their first run of the game in the bottom half of the inning as Edwin Espinal laced a ball into right field that would score Danny Collins from third.

Brooklyn widened their lead in the third inning, taking a 4-1 lead off an Alex Sanchez RBI double to score Jared King. The Jammers for the second time in as many nights seemed like they were poised to find an inning to put together a rally and inch closer to tying up the ballgame. Cyclones starter John Gant would work through five innings scattering three hits while allowing the Jammers to score just twice.

Justin Topa shined on the night working out of the bullpen for the Jammers as he would give the Jammers a chance to fight back. Topa worked three scoreless innings against the Cyclones and yielded just one hit while striking out two batters. Trailing 4-2 heading into the seventh inning the Jammers would fall behind the eight ball once again as the Cyclones offense put together three runs against Jared Lakind to take a 7-2 lead.

Jamestown would kick off the bottom of the eighth inning with a bang as Elvis Escobar painted the right field line and motored around the bases to pick up a lead off triple. Jeff Roy would follow with his third double of the season and score Escobar to make it a 7-3 ball game. Roy would add the Jammers second run of the inning off a RBI groundout from Adam Frazier making it a 7-4 game.

The games scoring would halt in the ninth inning as there would be no rally this time from the Jammers in front of the 2,095 rowdy fans at Diethrick Park. The Jammers (28-17) will look to take game three from the Cyclones (23-22) tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. as the Jammers close out their six game homestand.
