July 3, 2019 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Crosscutters lost 2-0 against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Wednesday on the team's annual Fourth of July Celebration Fireworks Night.

Williamsport (4-15) had the bases loaded with nobody out in the bottom of the eighth but Mahoning Valley closer Tim Herrin worked out of it with a pop-out and a double-play ball.

Crosscutters relief pitcher Jose Conopoima was outstanding in three perfect innings that also saw him strike out the side in order in the sixth and seventh innings. The 19-year-old from Venezuela racked up seven punch outs in total which equals a season-high for any Cutters pitcher.

Penn State product Taylor Lehman (0-1) started and scattered eight hits across four innings of work but was eventually touched for a single earned run in the fourth to take the losing decision.

Mahoning Valley (11-8) took two out of three games in the series and tacked on an insurance run in the top of the eighth on Brayan Rocchio's triple to right setting him up to score on a sacrifice fly by Raynel Delgado.

Tom Sutera (0-3) took the loss while allowing more than one earned run for the first time in his career. He gave up 5 runs in total, 3 of which were earned.

The Crosscutters play an afternoon home game on Thursday, the Fourth of July, with a 1:05 p.m. start against the West Virginia Black Bears homestand.
