Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release
NILES, Ohio- The Scrappers continued their dominance in front of the Eastwood Field faithful Sunday afternoon, defeating the Auburn Doubledays 3-1. Mahoning Valley is now 3-4, all three victories coming on their home diamond.
Caleb Hamrick picked up right where he left off from his last start, retiring the first 13 batters he faced. The only hit he allowed came in the 5th inning, a double by Auburn outfielder William Rodriguez.
More offense was showcased in the bottom of the 5th inning, as a leadoff single by Scrappers 2nd baseman Claudio Bautista, followed by three consecutive doubles off the bats of Juan Herrera, Nellie Rodriguez and Martin Cervenka gave Mahoning Valley a 3-1 lead.
Scrappy never looked back, as reliever Manuel Carmona slammed to door to seal the win. Hamrick earned the victory, his first on the season. The loss went to Doubledays hurler Casey Selsor, who is now 0-1 on the year.
The Scrappers will face Auburn again tomorrow for the second of three between the two teams. Big leaguers Brett Myers and Blake Wood are scheduled to pitch for Mahoning Valley tomorrow night. Call the Scrappers box office at 330-505-0000 to get your tickets.
