Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
No Stopping Vader
IronBirds RHP Sebastian Vader had a career game last night. He set career highs with eight innings pitched and ten strikeouts. At one point, he retired thirteen Cyclone batters in a row. He allowed only three hits, and for the second consecutive outing did not walk a batter. He left the game with Aberdeen ahead 4-0, but did not get the win.
Kalush helps out the cause
Scott Kalush got the start last night, playing in his first game since Tuesday. He walked twice and score twice. While officially 0-2 in the game, Kalush helped set the table for the IronBirds' big seventh inning, where they scored three runs on just one hit.
Hector Veloz is streaking
Hector Veloz got the night off defensively for the IronBirds, but his bat stayed hot. Veloz was 2-4 last night with a walk and 2 RBI singles, one in the third and the other in the seventh. He has now hit safely in all six games of the season. His RBI single in the seventh plated Jared Breen.
Bottom of the line up scoring runs
Manny Hernandez, Scott Kalush, and Jeff Kemp went a combined 0-8, but still had a great impact on the game. In addition to Kalush's two walks (going 0-2), Hernandez was 0-3 and was hit by a pitch. Kemp was 0-3, but reached on an error charged to L.J. Mazzilli of the Cyclones. On the error, Hernandez scored, and Kalush would come in to score on the next batter when George Barber grounded into a double play.
On the mound tonight...
RHP David Richardson gets the ball again for the IronBirds. Richardson's last start came last Tuesday when he went three and a third innings, allowed six hits, seven runs (all earned), walked three and struck out five. He took the loss as the Hudson Valley Renegades beat the IronBirds 10-5. Opposing him will be RHP Phillip Walby. Walby will be making his professional debut out of San Diego State University. Walby was the 12th round draft pick of the New York Yankees in the 2013 draft.
I'll see you next time...
The IronBirds begin a three game set at Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George this afternoon. After the game on Tuesday night, the IronBirds will head home and take on the Brooklyn Cyclones for two before welcoming the Yankees in for a three-game weekend set.
