
CT Tigers Lose in Extra Innings

Norwich, CT - The CT Tigers and the Tri-City ValleyCats were held scoreless through nine innings of baseball. In the 10th inning the ValleyCats put together a five-run inning that was enough to hold off the CT Tigers by a final score of 5-2.
With the bases loaded in the top half of the 10th inning ValleyCats RF Dan Gulbransen (2-5) hit a single to right field that scored two. During the same play on a throw from RF Ben Verlander (1-4) a catching error occurred by 1B Patrick Leyland (0-3) that allowed ValleyCats 1B Conrad Gregor (1-3) to score and put the ValleyCats ahead 3-0. Tri-City added two more runs off of RBI singles from DH Michael Martinez 1-5) and SS Jose Fernandez (1-3) to give them a 5-0 lead.
The CT Tigers attempted a rally in the bottom of the 10th inning following a two-run single from Verlander that cut the deficit to 5-2. ValleyCats RHP Pat Christensen settled down and retired the Tigers next three batters to end the game.
Through the first nine innings both ball clubs had a pitcher's duel. ValleyCats starter RHP Adrian Houser and winning pitcher RHP Tanner Bushue combined for nine scoreless innings and striking out 12 batters. The Tigers used four pitchers to combine for nine scoreless innings and striking out 11 batters.
The Tigers take on Tri-City tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. at Dodd Stadium. In game two of the three game series, Connecticut LHP Preston Jamison (0-1, 6.00) is slated to face off against Tri-City RHP Michael Feliz (1-0, 1.80).
