Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers (10-17) entered Saturday night's game one win away from a .500 mark on the road, but had a difficult task against the Williamsport Crosscutters (20-8), who were 15-2 at home. The Scrappers beat the Cutters 4-1 on Saturday night at Bowman Field.

Kieran Lovegrove (1-2) came out and was dialed in from the beginning. Lovegrove went a season-high six and one third innings, giving up four hits and three walks, while striking out six.

The Scrappers got him some run support early. Willi Castro and Ka'ai Tom started things with singles, followed by a Mark Mathias double. The double scored Castro, and Tom and Mathias later scored. Tom scored on a wild pitch by Tyler Gilbert, and Mathias scored on an Emmanuel Tapia groundout. Castro's single extended his hit streak to eight games.

Mahoning Valley added another run in the top of the third. Mathias tripled and later scored on a Tapia single. Mathias was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle.

Williamsport got its run in the bottom of the sixth. Jose Pujols walked to start the inning, and then scored on a Gregori Rivero single to center.

Mahoning Valley improves to 8-8 on the road, while the Crosscutters fall to 15-3 at home.

Leandro Linares gets the ball for the Scrappers against Luke Leftwich. First pitch from Bowman Field is scheduled for 5:05.
