Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Norwich, CT (7/18/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Connecticut Tigers by a score of 6-4 in 10 innings on Saturday night at Dodd Stadium. With the win, Hudson Valley improved their overall record to 15-12 and are now 3-0 in extra inning contests. With the loss, Connecticut dropped to 12-15.

The Renegades got on the board in the top of the second inning on center fielder Angel Moreno's RBI double to take a 1-0 lead. That lead grew to 2-0 in the top of the third inning as shortstop Michael Russell was hit by a pitch, stole second base and scored later in the inning when designated hitter Cade Gotta reached on an error.

Connecticut cut the Hudson Valley lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning on a RBI triple by designated hitter Cam Gibson. Renegades starting pitcher Angel Yepez went five innings in the no-decision, allowing a run off four hits and struck out three batters.

The Tigers tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning on a RBI single by catcher Franklin Navarro. Hudson Valley then struck for a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 4-2 lead, highlighted by first baseman Matt Dacey's RBI double and Sanchez's RBI single. But the Tigers scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth inning to level the score at 4-4, backed by RBI singles from Navarro and left fielder Victor Padron.

After both teams failed to score in the ninth inning, the game headed to extra innings and the Renegades wasted little time as they scored two runs in the top of the 10th inning. Dacey singled with one out and went to third on Gotta's double. After Sanchez was intentionally walked, third baseman Alex Schmidt drove in Dacey with a sacrifice fly RBI to make it a 5-4 game and Moreno drove in Gotta on a RBI single later in the inning to give the 'Gades a 6-4 advantage.

Reece Karalus (1-0) took the win for the Renegades as he pitched three innings in relief and struck out four, while allowing two runs and one earned run. Connecticut relief pitcher Jordan Smith (0-1) took the loss, giving up two runs in one and two-third innings of work.

Notes: With Manny Sanchez going two-for-four on the night, he now has extended his hit streak to six straight games dating back to July 10th. During this streak, Sanchez is hitting .428 (9-21) with a five RBI. This is the second significant hit streak that he has had during the 2015 season as Sanchez had an eight-game hitting streak spanning from June 24th through July 3rd.

Hudson Valley continues their three-game series against the Connecticut Tigers with game two scheduled for Sunday, July 19th at 4:05pm. The Renegades return to Dutchess Stadium on Tuesday, July 21st as they host the Williamsport Crosscutters, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
