Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

Looking to avoid a sweep at home, the Scrappers (27-32) snuck out a 5-3 win against the Black Bears (31-30) on Sunday afternoon at Eastwood Field.

The Black Bears jumped out early on an RBI ground out for Ty Moore to score Kevin Kramer.

The Scrappers scored a run of their own in the bottom of the first on an RBI double for Mark Mathias.

West Virginia added two in the top of the third when Kramer scored on a wild pitch from Brock Hartson. Moore grounded out for the second out, but it scored Christian Kelley.

Hartson allowed three runs, but only one earned in his five innings.

The Scrappers weren't feeling a sweep, so they scored two in the bottom of the seventh to the tie game. Daniel Salters ripped a two-run double to right to score Willi Castro and Ka'ai Tom.

Then in the eighth, Austin Fisher scored on a wild pitch from Cesilio Pimentel. Alexis Pantoja later scored on a sacrifice fly from Castro.

The Scrappers snapped a three-game losing streak, and now head onto the road for three with Auburn and three with West Virginia.

Casey Shane gets the ball on Monday night against New York-Penn League strikeout leader Jefry Rodriguez for the Doubledays. First pitch is set for 7:05.
