Lowell Spinners News Release

LOWELL, MASS. - On a soggy afternoon at LeLacheur Park the Lowell Spinners dropped their sixth straight game as the Staten Island Yankees completed a series sweep and season sweep with a 4-0 win Sunday.

Staten Island (30-28) broke a scoreless tie in the seventh inning. Trey Amburgey tripled down the left field line to lead off the inning. A two-out single by Eduardo De Oleo plated the Yankees' first run. It appeared the Spinners' would receive an inning ending double play to get out of the inning but Jeremy Rivera's throw skipped past Tucker Tubbs allowing De Oleo to score and give Staten Island a 2-0 lead.

The Yankees would extend their lead in the eighth inning, again taking advantage of a Spinners error. Thairo Estrada led off the inning with a single up the middle, moving to third on a pair of groundouts. An infield single by Amburgey plated Estrada, and after stealing second, Amburgey came around to score when Luis Alexander Basabe couldn't cleanly field Ryan Krill's single up the middle to extend the lead to 4-0.

Lowell (30-31) couldn't get anything going offensively, going 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position, stranding nine men on base. The Spinners are now batting .131 (24-for-183) over their last six-games, culminating in the team's six-game losing streak.

Austin Glorius started and went the first four innings for the Spinners, allowing three hits while walking a pair. He struck out three. Matt Kent (6-1, 1.71) suffered his first loss of his professional career, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits. He walked one and struck out two in five innings.

Offensively, Kyri Washington had two hits, while Chad De La Guerra and Tubbs had the only other Lowell hits.

The Spinners look to snap their skid Monday when they welcome the Vermont Lake Monsters to town. It's Fred C. Church Spinners' Hat Giveaway with Jose Almonte (2-3, 4.13) gets the ball for a 7:05pm first pitch.
