Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Wappingers Falls, NY (8/23/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Tri-City ValleyCats by a score of 8-2 on Sunday evening at Dutchess Stadium. With the victory, the Renegades saw their record improve to 30-30 while Tri-City fell to 33-27.

Hudson Valley struck for three runs in the bottom of the first inning on four hits to take a 3-0 lead. The Renegades sent seven batters to the plate in the inning and were keyed by a RBI single from left fielder Joe McCarthy, a RBI sacrifice fly from first baseman Matt Dacey and a RBI ground out from designated hitter Hector Montes. That lead was extended to 4-0 in the bottom of the second inning with a leadoff double from third baseman Alex Schmidt and a RBI double from Taylor Hawkins.

Hudson Valley added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning on a RBI sacrifice fly from Montes and a RBI single off the bat of Hawkins, giving the 'Gades a 6-0 lead. A RBI walk from Hawkins in the fifth inning gave Hudson Valley a 7-0 lead and the Renegades catcher three RBI on the evening.

That was all the run support that Renegades starting pitcher Travis Ott (6-3) needed as he allowed three hits in six shutout innings of work while striking out five batters. Ott is now 2-0 in 2015 against the ValleyCats as he picked up a win against Tri-City back on August 5th at Dutchess Stadium.

Hudson Valley tacked on another run in the bottom of the eighth inning as shortstop Michael Russell singled and scored on a RBI triple from McCarthy, bringing the score to 8-0 Hudson Valley. Tri-City picked up a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning on a two-run single from second baseman Kolbey Carpenter.

The loss went to Tri-City's starting pitcher Harold Arauz (0-4) as he allowed six runs off nine hits in three innings of work. Tim Ingram picked up his first save of the season for Hudson Valley as he pitched the final three innings of the game in relief of Ott.

Notes: All Renegades batters reached base with a hit or a walk during Sunday's game but catcher Taylor Hawkins was the standout performer in the lineup as he finished the day going two-for-three with three RBI. Hawkins has been swinging a steady bat lately as the Hudson Valley catcher has hit safely in five of his last seven games played, including a multi-hit effort on August 13th at Mahoning Valley.

Hudson Valley travels to face the Brooklyn Cyclones on Monday, August 24th with first pitch set for 7:00pm. The Renegades return to Dutchess Stadium to host Brooklyn on Tuesday, August 25th at 7:05pm. Tuesday is "Ponder This Night" at Dutchess Stadium as well as AAA Discount Night, where fans receive $2 off their ticket order with their AAA Membership Card.
