
Schunk & Collins Double Trouble in Yard Goats' Win

Richmond, VA- Infielders Aaron Schunk and Isaac Collins each smashed two-run doubles leading the Hartford Yard Goats to a 7-4 victory against the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Thursday night at The Diamond in Richmond, Virginia. Schunk's double gave the Yard Goats a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning, and Collins added to a 3-2 lead with his two-out double in the seventh. Hartford starter Michael Baird and four relievers combined for 15 strikeouts as the Yard Goats improved to 7-2 on the two-city 12-game road trip. The Yard Goats win combined with the Somerset loss puts Hartford within a half game of first place in the Eastern League's Northeast Division.
The Yard Goats scored three runs in the fourth inning off Richmond starter Kai-Wei Teng. Teng retired the first ten batters, including six strikeouts before Ezequiel Tovar tripled in the fourth inning. Michael Toglia's fielder's choice grounder scored Tovar, giving Hartford a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Aaron Schunk cracked a two-run double down the right field line, scoring Toglia and Brenton Doyle to make it 3-0.
Hartford starter Michael Baird was outstanding in his second start of the season. The righty retired nine of ten batters faced with six strikeouts in three innings of work. He did not allow a hit and walked one. Richmond got a pair of runs in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Franklin Labour and a bases loaded walk to make it a 3-2 game.
The Yard Goats added on in the seventh with a two-out rally. Niko Decolati walked and Jimmy Herron singled, setting up an RBI spot for Isaac Collins. Collins ripped a double down the right field line scoring Decolai and Herron for a 5-2 lead. A few batters later, Toglia singled home Collins to make it 6-2. Hartford reliever Blair Calvo struck out the first five batters faced in the seventh and eighth innings before allowing an infield hit followed by a two-run homer by Sean Roby.
The Yard Goats continue their six-game series with the Giants affiliate, the Richmond Flying Squirrels, on Friday night at 6:35. LHP Nick Bush will start for the Yard Goats and LHP Kyle Harrison will start for the Flying Squirrels. The game will be broadcast on Newsradio 1410 WPOP. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin' Donuts Park on Tuesday, May 31st at 7:05 to host the Phillies affiliate, the Reading Fightin Phils.
