Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Bowling Green, Ky. - Five days after the weather interrupted his last start, Jaime Schultz dominated opposing hitters and registered eight more strikeouts as the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A/Tampa Bay Rays) defeated the Fort Wayne TinCaps (San Diego Padres) to clinch the series, 2-1.

Schultz left with a 1-0 lead, but received a no-decision. He faced trouble in the first inning, but after Fernando Perez grounded into a double play to end the inning, the right-hander settled into a groove. Schultz struck out the side in the third inning, and he finished his night with two more punch outs in the sixth.

The Hot Rods offense gave him an early lead with a run in the fourth. With one out, Johnny Field doubled down the right-field line. One out later, Granden Goetzman recorded his third triple of the season. It plated Field, and moved Bowling Green in front. With his double, Field has now hit safely in 12 of his last 14 games.

The TinCaps would level the game at one in the top of the seventh. With one out, Franmil Reyes pinch-hit for Luis Tejeda. Reyes doubled to right field, and would come around to score when Josh VanMeter doubled to left field.

The tie would not last long as a sacrifice fly put the Hot Rods back in front in the bottom of the seventh. Oscar Hernandez led off with his fourth triple of the season, it went into the right-center field gap and put the go-ahead runner at third base with nobody out. After Ty Young drew a walk and Ariel Soriano reached on a fielder's choice, Alexander Simon hit a sacrifice fly to deep left field to score Hernandez and give Bowling Green back the lead.

Fort Wayne threatened in the ninth, but Ronnie Richardson struck out to end the threat. Stone Speer (4-1) tossed two and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen to earn the win. Colton Reavis struck out Richardson to end the game and record his third save of the season.

Starter Walker Weickel (1-7) allowed two runs over six frames, but the Hot Rods' pitching effort ensured a loss.

The Hot Rods now embark on a six-game road trip to close the first half of the season. It begins on Tuesday night in Dayton, Ohio, as Bowling Green will face-off with the Dragons (Cincinnati Reds) in game one of a three-game set. First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m. CT, and fans can listen to the action live on 1340 WBGN - The Ticket, beginning with the Pepsi Pre-Game Show at 5:45 p.m. CT. German Marquez will ascend the mound for the Hot Rods.
