June 9, 2014 - Midwest League (MWL1)
West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The Midwest League announced on Monday that West Michigan Whitecaps' pitcher Chad Green has been added to the Eastern Division All-Star roster as an injury replacement.
The addition increases the number of Whitecaps in the All-Star Game to a league-leading seven players, including five pitchers from the league's top-ranked pitching staff. The 2014 Midwest League All-Star Classic will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, at Fifth Third Ballpark in West Michigan.
Green, a 23-year-old out of the University of Louisville, is 1-2 with a 3.44 ERA through 11 starts this season. The hard-throwing right-hander has 57 strikeouts and just 13 walks in 65.1 innings. He has been especially productive since May 1, posting a 2.48 ERA over that time.
Green joins fellow starting pitchers Jonathon Crawford, Buck Farmer and Austin Kubitza, as well as reliever Joe Mantiply, on the Eastern Division All-Star roster. The West Michigan pitching staff currently leads the league with a 2.98 ERA and 565 strikeouts.
Second baseman Javier Betancourt and outfielder Wynton Bernard will also participate in the game as reserve position players.
The Whitecaps continue their playoff push on Monday night with a 7:00 p.m. first pitch against the South Bend Silver Hawks. LHP Kevin Ziomek (3-5, 2.26) is scheduled to pitch for West Michigan against LHP Hector Hernandez (3-1, 2.67) of South Bend on a JQ99 FM bulletin night featuring half-price box and reserved seats for fans that bring a church or community bulletin to the box office. Season, group and individual tickets can be reserved by calling the Whitecaps' front office at 616-784-4131 or visiting www.whitecapsbaseball.com.
