Bauers Wins Midwest League Player of the Week Award

June 9, 2014 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

TinCaps first baseman Jake Bauers has been named the Midwest League's Player of the Week for June 2-8, the league announced on Monday. At 18, Bauers is the youngest player in the 16-team league, but his prowess at the plate tells a different story. In six games last week, the Huntington Beach, Calif., native hit .455 / .520 / .727 with two home runs and five runs batted in. During the torrid stretch, he even scored six runs and stole three bases.

Entering tonight's game at Bowling Green (8:05 p.m. ET, ESPN Radio 1380), Bauers has hit safely in 14 consecutive games. That's the longest hitting streak of the season for a TinCaps player and also the longest active streak in the league.

Since he joined Fort Wayne from extended spring training on April 25, through 38 games, Bauers is batting .373 with five home runs and 28 runs batted in. He also has five doubles and three triples. MadFriars.com and FOX Sports San Diego tabbed Bauers as the San Diego Padres Minor League Player of the Month for May.
