Schneider to Rehab with Pigs This Weekend

(Allentown, Pa.) - Northampton High School graduate and current Phillies catcher Brian Schneider, who has been sidelined since May 9 with a strained left Achilles, will begin a three-game Major League rehab assignment with the IronPigs on Friday night at Coca-Cola Park, the Phillies announced today. Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network is the exclusive sponsor of all Major League rehabilitation appearances at Coca-Cola Park.

Tickets still remain for all three weekend games at Coca-Cola Park and can be purchased in-person at Coca-Cola Park, by calling (610) 841-PIGS or online at ironpigsbaseball.com. Prices for single-game tickets start as low as $6 for General Admission, granting fans access to the Capital BlueCross Lawn seating area and standing room only areas. Field Level reserved seats are just $9.

Schneider had seen action in seven games with the Phillies prior to the injury, batting 3-for-18 with three runs scored and two walks. He suffered the Achilles injury on May 8 against Atlanta was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 9. He is expected to be in lineup when the IronPigs host the Louisville Bats on Friday at 7:05 p.m. and in both weekend contests against the Buffalo Bisons on Saturday and Sunday at Coca-Cola Park.

Schneider, a 1995 graduate of nearby Northampton High School, was signed to a two-year contract by the Phillies this off-season. The 33-year-old hit .218 with three home runs and 18 RBI in 59 games last season for the New York Mets while throwing out nine of 28 (32%) potential base stealers. Since making his Major League debut in 2000, Schneider has thrown out 185 base runners -- the most for any National League catcher.

Originally selected by Montreal in the fifth round of the 1995 draft, Schneider has spent his entire career in the National League East. In 933 career Major League games with Montreal/Washington (2000-07), New York-NL (2008-09) and Philadelphia (2010), he has compiled a .250 average with 59 home runs and 356 RBI.

A community advocate, Schneider was named the Expos' 2002 Roberto Clemente Award winner, recognizing community service and also founded the "Catching the Kids Foundation," with his wife, Jordan, to help underprivileged children on the national level.
